If you would have asked me about gut health five years ago I would have laughed and been like you’re asking the wrong person my gut is just a garbage disposal. I knew nothing about probiotics. I feel like I’ve always had a sensitive stomach mostly due to anxiety and I always attributed all my stomach issues to it. It wasn’t until after I had my first child that I realized how important gut health was. Postpartum was when most of my gut health problems arose. I had developed adverse reactions to food like popcorn and ground beef and literally could not keep them down. For the first time in my life I had problems with most dairy products especially milk and by problems I mean a mad case of the b-gees (bubbly guts). I laugh about it now but it was freaking horrible if I’m being honest. I figured that most of my problems were my diet so I started eating more greens and less dairy and almost no red meat. While that did fix my problems for a short time what really fixed all my issues was probiotics. Unbeknownst to me as I slowly introduced dairy back into my diet through yogurt I was introducing those good little probiotics into my gut making everything happy.
Even if you don’t think you have any stomach issues you should still be taking a good probiotic. 70% of your immune system is located in your gut and it contains the largest mass of lymphoid tissue in the body. If you really think about it your immune system affects so many aspects of your body from your mood, to energy levels, and even your skin. So by treating your gut right you’re treating your whole body right. The cool thing about probiotics is that they come in all forms. Most people think that probiotics are only in yogurt but you can actually get delicious drinks that have them or even take them in pill form. Currently my favorite line of probiotics is by Silver Fern. They’re a local brand based out of Utah and they make probiotic drink mixes that are delicious and they also make capsules that are just as amazing. The drink mixes are great if you’re trying to cut back on soda and the capsules are great if you’re one of those crazy people that religiously take their vitamins. Haha.
Either way take your probiotics and have a happy gut!
